FAQ
vSwitch - Hosted Softswitch

1- What is Partitioned service? How is this different from hosted service?

Ans. Partitioned service refers to the type of service in which the customer has exclusive access to a portion of Hosted softswitch, Voip Billing or Carrier Support System including equipment, software, database, bandwidth etc. for a period of time as per the service contract. Thereby, all partitions are identical in nature in terms of feature and functionalities yet differentiated due to the selected service plans.Hosted softswitch/ billing service is the same as partitioned softswitch / billing service and the two terms are used interchangeably on the website.

2 - What is vSwitch?

Ans. vSwitch refers to the partitioned/ hosted softswitch for wholesale voip or voip termination services using switch partitioning. This type of softswitch is also referred to as Class-4 softswitch since it is used for long distance communication and connects telecom operators over IP (via H.323 or SIP protocols) instead of the end consumer. The choice of switching platform for vSwitch is Genband (previously Nextpoint/ Nextone) which is a market leader in the Class-4 switching platforms providing comprehensive and reliable switching functionality. Both vSwitch and vBOSS services are sometimes collectively referred to as vSwitch.

3 - What is meant by premium bandwidth?

Ans. Premium bandwidth for VoIp softswitch is dedicated bandwidth with multiple Tier-1 Internet providers for redundancy. This ensures absolute minimum latency and maximum uptime which is important for mission critical applications in switch partitioning.

4 - What is meant by the term “No strings attached” & “No hidden charges”?

Ans. This means that the VoIP softswitch service offerings are not accompanied by any hidden charges or complexities that might require you to spend extra for the purpose of acquiring hosted softswitch service. We try our best to provide complete information about the switch partition service to our customers to help them understand what service they are getting before entering into a contract for VoIP softswitch.

  1. Separate charges for ingress and egress ports. Customers therefore end up paying double for each “effective” port they subscribe for. The port price for vSwitch is per ingress+ egress pair, meaning that there are no extra charges over and above the port charges per month.
  2. Extra charges for IP bandwidth. Some service providers charge extra for the bandwidth and exorbitant charges when the bandwidth exceeds the allocated bandwidth limit. vSwitch provides access to unlimited premium bandwidth and does not charge extra for it or for variations in its usage for switch partitioning.
  3. Extra fee for server or machine to host the system. Some service providers charge for port licenses and for machines to host the licensed switch partition software separately. vSwitch just charges you for the port and there are no separate charges for the system of VoIP softswitch.
